Volunteering at Our Center

These photos are an example of the work being done by final year Occupational Therapy students from Curtin University of Technology in Western Australia, who spent three weeks volunteering at the Shanghai Boai Children’s Rehabilitation Centre. Groups of students from Curtin have been coming to the centre since 2001. This is part of the OT Abroad program run by the School of Occupational Therapy and this project has been developed by Trevor Goddard. The Director of the centre, Ms Gao, in collaboration with the school, provides the opportunity for the students and the staff at the centre to learn from each other. In 2005 two different groups came to the centre, one in June-July and the other in November, which will also be happening this year. At the centre the students are given the opportunity to learn about conductive education and cultural differences and to actively participate in the rehabilitation, education and care of the children.
